Living room glazing in Sheffield

Most Sheffield living room enquiries describe the same symptom — the cold downdraught off a large single-glazed bay that makes the seating area unusable from November. In South Yorkshire that is usually a combination of victorian and edwardian terraces on the west side and proximity to the Ring Road (A61).

What we find on these streets

Where the bay carries leaded or stained top lights we template around them so the decorative glass stays visible from inside.

Radiators sitting under a bay need a low-profile head section so the convection path is not blocked — we check this at survey rather than on install day.

Sheffield housing stock is Victorian and Edwardian terraces on the west side, 1930s semis in the suburbs, and a large stock of stone-built cottages in the Peak District fringe, which sets what we find behind the plaster line.

Nearest motorway is M1 J33 and the main corridor is Ring Road (A61) — both matter for a living room on that side of the house.

Sheffield has over 1,000 listed buildings — the highest concentration is around the university quarter and the west end.

The practical side

  1. Step 1

Email a photo of the living room window with rough sizes.

Survey across Sheffield is normally offered within a week.

  3. Step 3

    Manufacture to the templated dimensions.

  4. Step 4

Room-side install, no scaffolding, original window untouched.

Living room glazing installed in Sheffield — Victorian and Edwardian terraces on the west side
Living room glazing in Sheffield. Surface temperature at the glass rises by several degrees, which removes the draught sensation people mistake for a leaking frame.

We will tell you when secondary glazing is the wrong answer — it happens, and it saves everyone time.

One survey, one fitting team, no subcontracted installers.

Thermal figures quoted are whole-window, not centre-pane, which is the honest way to state them.

Common questions

Can you follow the angles of a bay window?

Yes. Each facet is templated separately and the panels meet at the mullion lines, so the system follows the bay rather than boxing across it.

Will it stop the cold draught I feel on the sofa?

In almost every case. What most people describe as a draught is radiant loss and convection off cold glass, and a sealed room-side pane with Low-E coating removes both.

Do I have to take the curtains down?

Only for the install day. We survey the pole position first so the head track clears it and the same curtains go back up afterwards.
