Nightlife noise is a different acoustic problem to traffic. It is dominated by voices, door slams and bass, it happens exactly when you are trying to sleep, and it is concentrated in the hours when background masking noise is at its lowest.
Voices are mid-frequency — and mid-frequency is where laminate wins
Conversation sits broadly between 250 Hz and 4 kHz. That is precisely the band where a PVB interlayer in laminated glass does its best work, because the viscoelastic layer converts bending energy into heat rather than passing it through. A 6.4 mm laminated secondary pane cuts speech intelligibility dramatically — you may still detect that people are outside, but you stop being able to follow what they are saying, which is the point at which the brain stops attending to it.
Bass needs cavity depth, not just glass
Amplified music below 125 Hz will not be solved by glass mass alone. Depth is what handles it, so where the reveal allows we push the cavity to 150 mm or more and use compression gaskets rather than brush seals on the perimeter. Where a reveal is shallow we are honest about the limit: we can transform the voices and take the edge off the bass, but we cannot make a nightclub inaudible.

Documenting it if you are in dispute
If you are in an active noise complaint with the licensing authority, take dated recordings before any work. Environmental health teams weigh a documented before-and-after considerably more heavily than a description, and it can affect licence conditions on the premises.
