Measuring Your Own Windows for an Indicative Price
You do not need accurate measurements for us to give you a ballpark figure — you need consistent ones. Five numbers and one photo per window is enough for an indicative price by email.
The five measurements
Width of the opening at the top and again at the bottom, measured plaster face to plaster face. Height at the left and again at the right, from the sill to the underside of the head. And reveal depth: from the plaster face out to the nearest projecting part of the existing window, which is what determines the cavity you can have. Record in millimetres.

The photo matters more than the numbers
Stand back far enough to get the whole opening plus a metre of wall on each side, in daylight, with the curtains open. That single image tells us the window type, the sill arrangement, whether there is a radiator beneath, whether shutters are present and how the architrave is set — most of what governs the price.
Three common mistakes
Measuring the glass rather than the opening, which understates it substantially. Measuring one width only, which hides an out-of-square reveal — the single biggest cost variable on period property. And forgetting the reveal depth, which is the measurement that decides whether the acoustic specification you want is even possible.
