Warranty and Aftercare

Warranty terms are where quotes differ most and are compared least. These are the distinctions worth understanding before you choose an installer — ours or anyone else's.

Three separate things are being warranted

The frame and its finish, the glass and any sealed components, and the workmanship of the installation. They are frequently covered for different lengths of time by different parties, and a headline number in an advert usually refers only to the longest of the three. Ask for all three separately and in writing.

  • Frame and powder-coat finish
  • Glass and sealed components
  • Installation workmanship
  • Who honours each — installer or manufacturer

What no warranty covers

Accidental breakage, impact damage, damage from solvent or abrasive cleaning, and consequential losses. Wear items such as gaskets and running gear are typically covered for a shorter period than the frame, which is reasonable — they are the moving parts.

Insurance-backed and manufacturer-backed cover

A manufacturer warranty depends on the manufacturer still trading. An insurance-backed guarantee is underwritten by a third party and survives the installer. For a long-life product it is worth knowing which you are being offered, and any installer who is vague about it is telling you something.

How we handle a callback

Adjustment issues — a panel binding after the first winter, a gasket that has shifted — are corrected on a single visit at no charge. We would rather return once and have it right than have you live with a door that catches.
