Train Line Noise
Train noise is characterised by low-frequency rumble punctuated by high-frequency wheel screech — the widest sound spectrum of any common urban noise source.
The Sheffield picture
The Midland Main Line runs directly through Sheaf Valley, so Heeley, Meadowhall and Attercliffe postcodes carry the loudest train noise in the region. The Hope Valley line adds tunnel-mouth rumble to Totley and Dore.
The spec we install
6.8 mm laminated secondary glass, 100 mm cavity minimum, compression perimeter seals. Freight-line locations often warrant 150 mm cavity for the extra low-frequency drop.
Bedroom-focused installs
We normally recommend bedroom-first phasing — a full-house install pays off, but the sleep improvement from doing just the bedroom-facing windows in month one is immediate.
