Heritage & Listed in Huddersfield
Long-standing installers in Edgerton, Marsh, Almondbury and the Colne Valley villages. On this page we set out exactly how our heritage & listed-building secondary glazing works, what it costs to spec in HD1 and HD2, and the case studies we can share on request.
How our heritage & listed works in Huddersfield
A room-side pane also shields fragile cylinder-blown, crown and hand-drawn original glass from thermal shock, cleaning damage and impact.
Historic England and most local conservation officers recommend room-side secondary glazing over replacement double glazing on protected properties — it's the only upgrade that's fully reversible.
In many cases listed-building consent isn't required because no historic fabric is touched — where it is, we supply drawings and specifications at no cost for your application.
Slim-line profiles (Vision HD, satin anodised finishes and colour-matched RAL) sit unobtrusively behind original sashes, invisible from the street.
Best-fit windows in HD1–HD5
Grade I / II listed sashes — common across Huddersfield's gritstone terraces.
Leaded and stained-glass lights — common across Huddersfield's gritstone terraces.
Steel Crittall Grade II casements — common across Huddersfield's gritstone terraces.
Georgian small-pane sashes — common across Huddersfield's gritstone terraces.
"Will the conservation officer accept it?"
In our experience, they usually prefer it — because it's the only window upgrade that leaves the original completely intact.

Common questions
What's the impact on natural light?
Minimal — the second pane is optically clear and slim-line frames sit within the original reveal so no daylight is lost.
Will the install harm the original sashes?
No — the secondary system fits into the reveal, not into the sash box. The original window operates exactly as before.
Do you match the frame colour to my existing joinery?
Yes — powder-coated aluminium is available in white, black, grey, satin anodised or any of 200+ RAL colours, colour-matched on request.
Is listed-building consent needed?
In many cases no, because no historic fabric is altered. Where it is needed we supply drawings and specifications with your quote at no cost.
How does this compare to replacement double glazing?
A modern secondary unit with Low-E glass and a 100 mm cavity outperforms most existing sealed double-glazed units — and it works on windows you legally can't replace.
