Aircraft noise is broadband and low-frequency — the hardest sound source to block with standard double glazing, and the easiest to block with correctly-specified secondary glazing.
Why standard double glazing fails
A 12–20 mm sealed cavity can't decouple the low-frequency components of aircraft noise. That's why homes under a flight path still hear every approach even with modern PVCu units.
The spec that works
Mismatched panes (4 mm primary, 6.8 mm laminated secondary), 150 mm cavity where possible, and compression seals rated for long-term acoustic use. Rw typically 45–50 dB.
